Research conference for people with learning disabiltities tomorrow!

We now have 90 people booked in for the conference tomorrow – a mix of people with learning disabiltities and their supporters. It is getting very exciting! All the last minute things to do today like filling the conference bags and making the signs for the rooms. Hope everything goes well tomorrow!

  • A great day so far. We have had a presentation about what research is. We have met lots of researchers but only a few had a learning disability themself. We did an Ask the Audience session when everyone voted on a remote control. We could see how everyiine voted straight away.

  • I enjoyed the conference it was good gave me some ideas for L.D.W website that is being set up.

Over 100 people came. We ran out of conference bags! I don’t think Glamorgan University has ever seen so many people with learning disabiltities.

Some people have said they want more information about research. Others wanted to join the TRAC group. I will put up a link in a couple of weeks to the TRAC webpage.

We did ‘Ask the Audience’ (like in Who wants to be a millionaire), at the end of the day. Only peopple with learning disabiltities took part in it. Most people (74%) said that research is important, and they wanted to be researchers (70%). Almost everybody (91%) said it had been a great day.

We have a list of research questions that one workshop wrote. We are taking that to a meeting tomorrow, to see what other researchers think of the questions. The group who work together here at Glamorgan University now have a lot of work to do to try and get some money to do this research.
