I enjoyed the trip. The staff were fantastic. During my interview, I got upset because all of the memories came back into my mind, but I have been told I can have counselling, this has made me feel a bit better.
I did drama, zumba, chocoalate making and the gym. Coming away to this hotel has made me feel more mature and made me want to help my friends more.
(Liz, support) Morgan told me that this trip has made him want to take on a support role within Vale People First – we will be happy for Morgan to now become a volunteer support worker with our Vale Youth Speak Up Group – thanks for the opportunity for him to realise his potential in a neutral setting.
The interview I had about abuse was ok. There are nice people here. I enjoyed watching tv in my room. I enjoyed being away without my parents. I would like to come on one of these trips again.
I have never been away in a hotel before and I thought it was lovely. I really enjoyed getting away from home. I loved my room. I was nervous at first, but im not as nervous now and I hope to come back soon. Thank you.
I am pooped. And sad that it is the last day. And just so totally proud of the human race that in the middle of trauma and some truly awful stories we can create magic. There has been joy;delight; friendship; romance; dancing; lovely food and lots of laughter.
The researchers have had to work incredibly hard. Probably too hard. For the co researchers I think it is a lot to jump from a job that is a few hours a week to three days intensively and it has put a lot of pressure on some members of the team. We are working hard to support and take care of each other and it feels like we are doing OK.
I thought the whole few days were excellent. I have never been to anything like this before. This is only my second year being a support worker. But is was excellent, well run. It is a difficult subject for anyone to talk about, let alone people with learning disabilities. The way that it has been presented and the way it has been organised is really good. Nice surroundings, good hotel. The staff at the hotel were very accomodating and helpful.
The only thing, when we put our name down for activities, it would have been good to be able to go to the chocolate session another time. Apart from that everything has been excellent. Yeah, it has been really good.
It was very interesting. And the place is very big to get round and that is good. It went very well. Because I was asked to come, in Monmouth we have a people first and I was asked to come with J. and the two supporters Andy and L. The three days were very interesting.
Andy put my name down for chocolate making but I couldn’t do it coz it was the same time as the focus group. I didn’t mind.
The focus group was very interesting. They were very understanding. I understood the questions.
I filled in the questionnaire and it was very interesting.
Well I found it an absolutely, brilliant few days. The balance was good, because the subject is so slightly difficult the activities have helped to offset and give a different focus for the people taking part so it is not too heavy. We have taken part in previous things at the University before. One of the groups there which was heavier. It was reviewing a DVD for a literature review. Perhaps having someone there in the focus group to interpret a little bit perhaps reassure and help with understanding. I understood why it was thought a good idea coz there is also a slight risk of us influencing the responses. But I understand why they may feel it necessary for us to be there perhaps to interpret.
The only other thing that has come up. Only one person did an individual interview. It unnerved her she didn’t realise that she was going to be recorded.
The first afternoon it was a little bit rushed with the paperwork. More time to explain consent for recording would have helped.
It was alright. The hotel was alright. Everything was alright. I liked the card making and the chocolate but I didn’t eat it! I’ll eat it later on probably. I went in the focus group. It was alright but I would have like a support worker with me. Coz I could understand it but not so much. Well I could speak up for myself but um I needed some help. I would have liked a support worker in but they wasn’t allowed to go in but I would have like them there.
L., my support worker, helped me with the questionnaire.
I enjoyed the research it was good. I enjoyed the um chocolate making I loved doing that it was brilliant that was. I enjoyed the tour of the Millenium stadium. I enjoyed everything I did.
I enjoyed the focus group it was good. Very interesting. I was quite nervous at first going in there without the support person who came with me. I asked if M. could go in but they said no. I always think that if you have support the person who is with you it is best to let them come in with you. I felt better when I was in there. The people in there helped me. It was alright the way people put their points of view across in the group. There were some very strong points of view in the group as well. If I was to do a focus group again I would still want M to come in.
I needed help with the questionnaire but one of the help team helped and I did it. I just enjoyed the whole three days. It was quite interesting the whole three days. Especially the food, the food was lovely!
I think the three days have been marvellous. You kept me on my feet. I have done loads of things and actually lost weight. I spent an hour in the gym.
I really liked the focus group, I know a lot of it already on the POVA team and all that. It was fun and I made some new friends as well. The actitivties was relly good fun and you had a chance to do lots of things.
I thought the questionnaire was really easy and easy read. And I think the three days have been interesting.
It is a good way to getting talking to other people first groups.
